Here in the picture, Blake is stepping up about 15 stairs away from the camera with his single blade. We are looking at the back of him. He wears a T-Shirt and a part of shorts on this picture.
Stairs are probably what people hated the most regarding accessibility & mobility. However, to Blake, it is these every small step that helped him to achieve those big steps on the track. And he is stepping up the stairs with a quick and steady pace with his left leg.
As I mentioned earlier, Blake is a distance away. If you separate this picture into three sections from top to bottom, Blake is at the center part. Above him are the tress and the finish line of the stairs covered in the tree shadows so they reveled as much dark grey to black. Below him are the stairs he just conquered and the empty bleachers which are being lit by the sun.
Next comes the highlight of the image: light and shadow. As the sunlight comes from 11 O’clock which is also camera left, Blake’s left side of the body is being lit with the sun which shows up the wrinkles on his shirt, the shiny sweat on his head, as well as his strong left prosthetic leg. Blake stands out from the image as his upper part of the body is being lit while the background stays in shadow.
Now, speaking of the foreground, the sunlight gives the stairs a nice and clear glow on the edges which creates white lines that look like the lines on the notebook. Also, the empty bleachers create a leading line on both sides of the images which leads our focus back to Blake.
